William Tyndale (c. 1490-1536) dedicated his life to translating the Bible from its original Hebrew and Greek texts into English, driven by a passion to make Scripture accessible to everyone. His vision was that even "a boy that driveth the plough" would know the Scriptures.
Due to opposition to his work, Tyndale was forced to flee England. He laboured across continental Europe, especially in Germany and the Low Countries, to complete his translation. In 1535 he was betrayed and arrested near Antwerp, then imprisoned in the castle of Vilvoorde near Brussels.
On October 6, 1536, he was executed there — strangled at the stake and then burned. His final recorded prayer was, "Lord, open the King of England's eyes."
In 1604, King James I of England authorized a new English translation of the Bible, and a team of scholars began the work that would become the King James Version. It was completed and first published in 1611, drawing heavily on Tyndale's earlier translation, with a very high percentage of its New Testament wording echoing his work.
Tyndale's sacrifice helped place the WORD of GOD into the hands of ordinary people and still shapes how the Bible is read in English around the world.

Word meanings, verse meanings and transliterations are machine-generated and may differ from traditional Bible wording. Settings describes them as machine-generated where you turn them on, and each of them can be switched off there. None of them replaces the translation you selected.
Wireless projection pairs a screen and a phone using a short-lived pairing code or QR code. No account or sign-in is needed. Stopping the projection disconnects your devices, and the pairing session expires on its own.
