Who was King Zedekiah and why is he important in this passage?

Zedekiah was the son of Josiah and the last king to rule over Judah in Jerusalem before the city fell. The king of Babylon had removed his nephew from the throne and put Zedekiah in his place, so he ruled under Babylon’s power. In this passage he matters because, even though he had seen what happened to the king before him, he still refused to listen to God’s words spoken through Jeremiah.
