This record showeth a prophet fleeing from the face of the LORD, a great storm upon the sea, a great fish prepared, and a great city warned of overthrow. The people humble themselves with fasting and sackcloth, and turn from their evil way. The LORD revealeth His gracious mercy, slow to anger and of great kindness, and teacheth His servant to pity souls. Believers learn the fear of the LORD, the power of prayer in affliction, and that salvation is of the LORD.
