After a season of neglect toward the house of the LORD, the people are called to consider their ways, turn from self‑seeking, and labour in rebuilding. The LORD explains their lack of blessing, promises His presence, foretells shaking of heaven and earth, and declares that the glory of the latter house and His peace shall be given to His obedient people.
