And the Lord said to Abraham: Go from your country and from your kindred and from your father's house to the land that I will show you.
And the Lord said to Abraham: Go from your country and from your kindred and from your father's house to the land that I will show you.
The Call of Abram
Abram Journeys to Egypt
And the Lord said to Abraham: Go from your country and from your kindred and from your father's house to the land that I will show you.
And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will glorify your name, and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you; and in you all the tribes of the earth will be blessed.
Then Abraham went, as the Lord told him, and Lot went with him. And Abraham was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
And Abraham took Sarah his wife and Lot his brother's son with all the treasures they had acquired and with the souls they had received in Haran; and they went to the land of Canaan, and they came to it.
And Abraham went through that land to the place of Shechem and to the plain of Moresha; and the Canaanites were then in that land.
And the Lord appeared to Abraham and said: I will give this land to your seed. And Abraham made an altar there to the Lord, who appeared to him.
Then he went from there to the hill, which is to the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent there, and Bethel was to his west and Gaius to the east; and there he made an altar to the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.
From there Avram went further south.
Abram and Sarai in Egypt
But there was a famine in that land, and Abraham went down to Egypt to take refuge there; because the famine was great in that land.
And when he got close to entering Egypt, he said to Sarah his wife: Look, I know that you are a beautiful woman.
Therefore, when the Egyptians see you, they will say: This is his wife. So they will kill me and leave you alive.
But come on, say you're my sister, and I'll be fine because of you, and I'll stay alive with you.
And when Abraham came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.
And Pharaoh's princes saw her, and praised her before Pharaoh. And they took her to Pharaoh's court.
And he did good to Abraham for her sake, and he had sheep and cattle and donkeys and servants and maidservants and donkeys and camels.
But the Lord sent great evils upon Pharaoh and his house because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
Then Pharaoh called Abraham and said to him: What did you do to me? Why didn't you tell me she was your wife?
Why did you say: She is my sister? I took you as my wife. Now there's your wife, take her and go.
And Pharaoh commanded the people for him, and they sent him and his wife and whatever he had.
