[] Ο δε Αδαμ εγνωρισεν Ευαν την γυναικα αυτου· και συνελαβε, και εγεννησε τον Καιν· και ειπεν, Απεκτησα ανθρωπον δια του Κυριου. [] O de Adam egnorisen Evan tin gynaika aftou: kai synelave, kai egennise ton Kain: kai eipen, Apektisa anthropon dia tou Kyriou. [] And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and gave birth to Cain; and said, I have begotten a man through the Lord.
[] And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and gave birth to Cain; and said, I have begotten a man through the Lord.
Cain and Abel
Cain and Abel
[] And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and gave birth to Cain; and said, I have begotten a man through the Lord.
And besides, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a shepherd of sheep, and Cain was a farmer.
The First Murder
[] And by day Cain offered of the fruits of the earth they offered to the Lord.
And Abel also offered of the firstlings of his sheep, and of their flocks. And the Lord looked favorably on Abel and on his offering;
but he did not oversee Cain and his offering. And Cain was greatly indignant, and his face became sad
[] And the Lord said to Cain, Why are you angry? and why did your face darken?
if you behave well, won't you be welcome? and if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. But his desire will be in you, and you will rule over him.
[] And Cain said to his brother Abel, Let us go into the plain; and when they were together in the plain, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.
[] And the Lord said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I do not know; am I not my brother's keeper?
And God said, What have you done? the voice of your brother's blood cries out to me from the earth;
and now cursed be you from the earth, because you opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand;
when you work the earth, it does not want to give you its fruit; you will be a planet and a fugitive on the earth.
[] And Cain said to the Lord, My sin is greater than to be forgiven;
behold, you are persecuting me today from the face of the earth, and from your face I want to hide, and I want to be a planet and a fugitive on the earth; and whoever finds me, wants to kill me.
And the Lord said to him, for this, whoever kills Cain, he will be punished sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark on Cain, so that he would not kill him whenever he found him.
[] And Cain came forth from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, to the east of Eden.
The Descendants of Cain
And Cain knew his wife, and conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.
And to Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begat Mehuiael; and Mehuiael begat Methusael; and Methusael begat Lamech.
[] And Lamech took to himself two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other was Silla.
And Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in tents and feed cattle.
And his brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who played the guitar and the flute.
And Silla also gave birth to Tubal-cain, maker of all tools of copper and iron; and Tubal-cain's sister was Naamah.
[] And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Silla, Hear my voice; wives of Lamech, listen to my words; for I have killed a man in my wound, and a youth in my scourge;
for Cain wants to be avenged sevenfold, and Lamech seventy-seven.
Seth and Enosh
[] And Adam met his wife again, and gave birth to a son, and called his name Seth, saying, That God has given me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.
And to Seth likewise was born a son, and he called his name Enos. Then they began to be called by the name of the Lord.
