[] And the ophis was the wisest of all the animals of the field, which the Lord God made; and the ophis said to the woman, What did God say, Do not eat from every tree of paradise?
The Serpent’s Deception
The Fall of Man
[] And the ophis was the wisest of all the animals of the field, which the Lord God made; and the ophis said to the woman, What did God say, Do not eat from every tree of paradise?
And the woman said to the man, From the fruit of the trees of paradise we may eat;
and of the fruit of the tree, which is in the midst of paradise, God said, Do not eat of it, do not touch it, lest you die.
And the official said to the woman, You certainly do not want him to die
but God reveals that every day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be as gods, knowing good and evil.
[] And the woman saw that the tree was good for smelling, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and she desired the tree as a gift of knowledge; and she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave it to her husband with her, and he ate.
And the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and sewing fig leaves, they made themselves girdles.
God Arraigns Adam and Eve
And they heard the voice of the Lord God, walking in the paradise toward the evening; and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God, among the trees of paradise.
[] Then the Lord God called Adam, and said to him, Where art thou?
And he said, I heard your voice in heaven, and I was afraid, because I am naked; and I hid myself.
[] And God said unto him, Hast thou revealed them to thee that thou art naked? Did you eat from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?
And Adam said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and we ate.
And the Lord God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The office served me, and I ate.
The Fate of the Serpent
[] And the Lord God said to the hornet, Because you have done this, you are cursed to be among all the cattle and all the animals of the field; on your belly you will walk, and dust you will eat, all the days of your life;
and I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he will crush your head, and you will embroider his feather.
The Punishment of Mankind
[] And to the woman he said, I want to multiply your sorrows and the pains of your pregnancy; with sorrow you want to give birth to children; and to your man you want to be your desire, and he wants to dominate you.
[] And to Adam he said, Because you obeyed the voice of your wife, and ate from the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, Do not eat from it, cursed be the ground because of you; you will be sorry for eating its fruit all the days of your life;
and thorns and thistles shall grow upon thee: and thou shalt eat the grass of the field;
in the sweat of your face you will eat your bread, until you return to the earth from which you came, because you are earth, and to earth you will return.
[] And Adam called his wife's name Evan, for she was the mother of all living.
The Expulsion from Paradise
[] And the Lord God made Adam and his wife skins, and clothed them.
[] And the Lord God said, Behold, Adam became as one of us, knowing good and evil; and now perhaps stretch out his hand and take from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever;
Whence the Lord God sent him from the paradise of Eden, to work the earth from which he was taken.
And he cast out Adam, and towards the east of the paradise of Eden he placed the Cherubim, and the flaming, rotating one, to guard the way of the tree of life.
