The Tower of Babel
[] And it was all the land of language and one voice.
And when they set out from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
And one said to the other, Come, let us make bricks, and let us roast them in the fire; and they used either brick instead of stone, and bitumen instead of clay.
And they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which may reach to heaven; and let us acquire a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.
[] And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men had built.
And the Lord said, Behold a people, and they all have one language, and they began to do this; and now they will not be hindered in all that they intend to do;
come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that one may not understand the other's language.
And the Lord scattered them from there over the whole face of the earth, and they ceased to build the city.
For this reason the name of this place was called Babel, because there the Lord continued the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
Genealogy from Shem to Abram
[] This is the genealogy of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old when he gave birth to Arphaxad two years after the flood;
and Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begat Salah;
and Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber;
and Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begat Phaleg;
and Eber lived after he begat Phaleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Phaleg lived thirty years, and begat Ragau;
and Phaleg lived after he begat Ragau two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Ragau lived thirty-two years, and begat Seruch;
and Ragau lived after he begat Seruch two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Seruch lived thirty years, and begat Nahor;
and Seruch lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begat Terah;
and Nahor lived after he begat Terah one hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Arran.
Terah’s Descendants
[] And this is the genealogy of Terah; Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Arran; and Arran begat Lot.
And Arran died before his father Thara in the place of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
And Abram and Nahor took unto themselves a wife: the name of Abram's wife was Sarah: and the name of Nahor's wife was Melcha, daughter of Arran, the father of Melcha, and the father of Jesha.
And Sarah was barren, she had no child.
And Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Harran his grandson, and Saran his bride, the wife of Abram his son; and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans, to subjugate the land of Canaan; and they came to Harran and dwelt there.
And the days of Thara were two hundred and five years: and Thara died in Harran.
