त्यस बेला सारा संसारभरि एउटै भाषा र एकै खालको बोली थियो।
 
Tyasa bēlā sārā sansārabhari ē'uṭai bhāṣā ra ēkai khālakō bōlī thiyō.
At that time, the whole world had one language and one speech.

The Tower of Babel

1 त्यस बेला सारा संसारभरि एउटै भाषा र एकै खालको बोली थियो।
 
Tyasa bēlā sārā sansārabhari ē'uṭai bhāṣā ra ēkai khālakō bōlī thiyō.
At that time, the whole world had one language and one speech.
2 मानिसहरू जब पूर्वतिर सर्दै गए, तिनीहरूले शिनार देशमा एउटा समथल भूमि भेट्टाए; र त्यहीँ बसोबास गर्न थाले।
 
Mānisaharū jaba pūrvatira sardai ga'ē, tinīharūlē śināra dēśamā ē'uṭā samathala bhūmi bhēṭṭā'ē; ra tyahīm̐ basōbāsa garna thālē.
As the people moved eastward, they found a flat land in the land of Shinar; and began to settle there.
3 तिनीहरूले आपसमा भने, “आओ, हामी इँटा बनाऔँ र त्यसलाई पोलेर कडा बनाऔँ।” तिनीहरूले ढुङ्गाको सट्टामा इँटा र मसलाको रूपमा अलकत्रा प्रयोग गरे।
 
Tinīharūlē āpasamā bhanē, “ā'ō, hāmī im̐ṭā banā'aum̐ ra tyasalā'ī pōlēra kaḍā banā'aum̐.” Tinīharūlē ḍhuṅgākō saṭṭāmā im̐ṭā ra masalākō rūpamā alakatrā prayōga garē.
They said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and burn them and make them hard." They used bricks instead of stone and alkatra as a spice.
4 त्यसपछि तिनीहरूले भने, “आओ, हामी आफ्ना निम्ति एउटा सहर बनाऔँ, र स्वर्गसम्म पुग्ने एउटा धरहरा बनाऔँ; अनि आफ्नो नाम राखौँ, नत्रता हामी सारा पृथ्वीभरि छरपस्ट हुनेछौँ।”
 
Tyasapachi tinīharūlē bhanē, “ā'ō, hāmī āphnā nimti ē'uṭā sahara banā'aum̐, ra svargasam'ma pugnē ē'uṭā dharaharā banā'aum̐; ani āphnō nāma rākhaum̐, natratā hāmī sārā pr̥thvībhari charapasṭa hunēchaum̐.”
Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower that reaches to heaven; and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered over all the earth."
5 तब मानिसहरूले बनाउँदै गरेका सहर र त्यस धरहरा हेर्न भनी याहवेह तल ओर्लनुभयो।
 
Taba mānisaharūlē banā'um̐dai garēkā sahara ra tyasa dharaharā hērna bhanī yāhavēha tala ōrlanubhayō.
Then Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower that the people were building.
6 त्यसपछि याहवेहले भन्‍नुभयो, “यी मानिसहरूको बोल्ने एउटै भाषा भएको कारण तिनीहरूले यो काम गर्न थालेका छन्; अब तिनीहरूले जे गर्नका निम्ति योजना बनाएका छन्, तिनीहरूका निम्ति केही पनि असम्भव हुनेछैन।
 
Tyasapachi yāhavēhalē bhannubhayō, “yī mānisaharūkō bōlnē ē'uṭai bhāṣā bha'ēkō kāraṇa tinīharūlē yō kāma garna thālēkā chan; aba tinīharūlē jē garnakā nimti yōjanā banā'ēkā chan, tinīharūkā nimti kēhī pani asambhava hunēchaina.
Then Yahweh said, "Because these people speak one language, they have begun this work; now nothing will be impossible for them in what they plan to do."
7 आओ, हामी तल जाऔँ, र तिनीहरूको भाषा खलबल पारिदिऔँ, ताकि तिनीहरूले एक-अर्काको बोली नबुझून्।”
 
Ā'ō, hāmī tala jā'aum̐, ra tinīharūkō bhāṣā khalabala pāridi'aum̐, tāki tinīharūlē ēka-arkākō bōlī nabujhūn.”
Come, let us go down, and confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
8 यसरी याहवेहले तिनीहरूलाई त्यहाँबाट सारा पृथ्वीभरि छरपस्ट पारिदिनुभयो; अनि तिनीहरूले त्यो सहर बनाउने काम अधुरै छोडे।
 
Yasarī yāhavēhalē tinīharūlā'ī tyahām̐bāṭa sārā pr̥thvībhari charapasṭa pāridinubhayō; ani tinīharūlē tyō sahara banā'unē kāma adhurai chōḍē.
Thus Yahweh scattered them from there over all the earth; And they left the building of the city unfinished.
9 त्यसकारण त्यस सहरलाई बाबेल भनिन्छ—किनकि यहीँ नै याहवेहले पृथ्वीका सारा मानिसहरूको भाषा खलबल पारिदिनुभएको थियो। तब त्यहाँबाटै याहवेहले तिनीहरूलाई सारा पृथ्वीभरि तितरबितर पारिदिनुभयो।
 
Tyasakāraṇa tyasa saharalā'ī bābēla bhanincha—kinaki yahīm̐ nai yāhavēhalē pr̥thvīkā sārā mānisaharūkō bhāṣā khalabala pāridinubha'ēkō thiyō. Taba tyahām̐bāṭai yāhavēhalē tinīharūlā'ī sārā pr̥thvībhari titarabitara pāridinubhayō.
That is why the city is called Babel—because it was here that Yahweh confused the language of all the peoples of the earth. From there Yahweh scattered them all over the earth.

Genealogy from Shem to Abram

10 शेमका वंशको विवरण यही हो: जलप्रलयको दुई वर्षपछि जब शेम 100 वर्ष पुगे, तब तिनी अर्पक्षदका पिता भए।
 
Śēmakā vanśakō vivaraṇa yahī hō: Jalapralayakō du'ī varṣapachi jaba śēma 100 varṣa pugē, taba tinī arpakṣadakā pitā bha'ē.
This is the genealogy of Shem: Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arpachshad.
11 अनि तिनी अर्पक्षदका पिता भएपछि, शेम 500 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू जन्मिए।
 
Ani tinī arpakṣadakā pitā bha'ēpachi, śēma 500 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū janmi'ē.
And after he became the father of Arpachshad, Shem lived 500 years; And other children were born to him.
12 जब अर्पक्षद 35 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी शेलहका पिता भए।
 
Jaba arpakṣada 35 varṣa pugē, tinī śēlahakā pitā bha'ē.
When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
13 अनि तिनी शेलहका पिता भएपछि, अर्पक्षद 403 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू जन्मिए।
 
Ani tinī śēlahakā pitā bha'ēpachi, arpakṣada 403 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū janmi'ē.
And after he became the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years; And other children were born to him.
14 जब शेलह 30 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी एबेरका पिता भए।
 
Jaba śēlaha 30 varṣa pugē, tinī ēbērakā pitā bha'ē.
When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
15 अनि तिनी एबेरका पिता भएपछि शेलह 403 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू भए।
 
Ani tinī ēbērakā pitā bha'ēpachi śēlaha 403 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū bha'ē.
And Shelah lived 403 years after he became the father of Eber; And he had other children.
16 जब एबेर 34 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी पेलेगका पिता भए।
 
Jaba ēbēra 34 varṣa pugē, tinī pēlēgakā pitā bha'ē.
When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
17 अनि तिनी पेलेगका पिता भएपछि एबेर 430 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू भए।
 
Ani tinī pēlēgakā pitā bha'ēpachi ēbēra 430 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū bha'ē.
And he lived after he became the father of Peleg 430 years; And he had other children.
18 जब पेलेग 30 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी रऊका पिता भए।
 
Jaba pēlēga 30 varṣa pugē, tinī ra'ūkā pitā bha'ē.
When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Ra.
19 अनि तिनी रऊका पिता भएपछि, पेलेग 209 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू भए।
 
Ani tinī ra'ūkā pitā bha'ēpachi, pēlēga 209 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū bha'ē.
And after he became the father of Ra, Peleg lived 209 years; And he had other children.
20 जब रऊ 32 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी सरूगका पिता भए।
 
Jaba ra'ū 32 varṣa pugē, tinī sarūgakā pitā bha'ē.
When Rao reached the age of 32, he became the father of Sarug.
21 अनि तिनी सरूगका पिता भएपछि रऊ 207 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू भए।
 
Ani tinī sarūgakā pitā bha'ēpachi ra'ū 207 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū bha'ē.
And he lived 207 years after he became the father of Sarug; And he had other children.
22 जब सरूग 30 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी नाहोरका पिता भए।
 
Jaba sarūga 30 varṣa pugē, tinī nāhōrakā pitā bha'ē.
When Serug reached the age of 30, he became the father of Nahor.
23 अनि तिनी नाहोरका पिता भएपछि सरूग 200 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू भए।
 
Ani tinī nāhōrakā pitā bha'ēpachi sarūga 200 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū bha'ē.
And he lived 200 years after he became the father of Nahor; And he had other children.
24 जब नाहोर 29 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी तेरहका पिता भए।
 
Jaba nāhōra 29 varṣa pugē, tinī tērahakā pitā bha'ē.
When Nahor reached the age of 29, he became the father of thirteen.
25 अनि तिनी तेरहका पिता भएपछि नाहोर 119 वर्ष बाँचे; र तिनका अरू छोराछोरीहरू भए।
 
Ani tinī tērahakā pitā bha'ēpachi nāhōra 119 varṣa bām̐cē; ra tinakā arū chōrāchōrīharū bha'ē.
And Nahor lived 119 years after he became the father of thirteen; And he had other children.
26 जब तेरह 70 वर्ष पुगे, तिनी अब्राम, नाहोर र हारानका पिता भए।
 
Jaba tēraha 70 varṣa pugē, tinī abrāma, nāhōra ra hārānakā pitā bha'ē.
When Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Terah’s Descendants

27 तेरहका वंशको विवरण यही हो: तेरहचाहिँ अब्राम, नाहोर र हारानका पिता भए; अनि हारान लोतका पिता भए।
 
Tērahakā vanśakō vivaraṇa yahī hō: Tērahacāhim̐ abrāma, nāhōra ra hārānakā pitā bha'ē; ani hārāna lōtakā pitā bha'ē.
These are the genealogies of Terah: Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; And Haran became the father of Lot.
28 आफ्ना पिता तेरह जीवित छँदै हारान आफू जन्मेको ठाउँ कल्दीहरूको ऊरमा मरे।
 
Āphnā pitā tēraha jīvita cham̐dai hārāna āphū janmēkō ṭhā'um̐ kaldīharūkō ūramā marē.
Haran died in Ur of the Chaldees, where he was born, while his father Terah was still alive.
29 अब्राम र नाहोर दुवैले विवाह गरे। अब्रामकी पत्नीको नाम साराई थियो; अनि नाहोरकी पत्नीको नाम मिल्का थियो; यिनीचाहिँ हारानकी छोरी थिइन्, जो मिल्का र यिस्का दुवैका पिता थिए।
 
Abrāma ra nāhōra duvailē vivāha garē. Abrāmakī patnīkō nāma sārā'ī thiyō; ani nāhōrakī patnīkō nāma milkā thiyō; yinīcāhim̐ hārānakī chōrī thi'in, jō milkā ra yiskā duvaikā pitā thi'ē.
Both Abram and Nahor married. Abram's wife's name was Sarai; And the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah; She was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Yiscah.
30 अब साराईचाहिँ बाँझी थिइन्; अनि तिनको कुनै सन्तान थिएन।
 
Aba sārā'īcāhim̐ bām̐jhī thi'in; ani tinakō kunai santāna thi'ēna.
Now Sarai was barren; And he had no children.
31 तेरहले अब्राम, आफ्नो नाति हारानको छोरा लोत र आफ्नी बुहारी साराई, अर्थात् आफ्नो छोरा अब्रामकी पत्नीलाई साथमा लिए; र कनान देशमा जानका निम्ति कल्दीहरूको ऊरबाट निस्के। तर हारानमा आइपुगेपछि तिनीहरू त्यहीँ बसोबास गर्न थाले।
 
Tērahalē abrāma, āphnō nāti hārānakō chōrā lōta ra āphnī buhārī sārā'ī, arthāt āphnō chōrā abrāmakī patnīlā'ī sāthamā li'ē; ra kanāna dēśamā jānakā nimti kaldīharūkō ūrabāṭa niskē. Tara hārānamā ā'ipugēpachi tinīharū tyahīm̐ basōbāsa garna thālē.
Terah took with him Abram, his grandson Lot the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram; And they went out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan. But when they arrived in Haran, they settled there.
32 तेरह 205 वर्ष बाँचे; अनि तिनी हारानमै मरे।
 
Tēraha 205 varṣa bām̐cē; ani tinī hārānamai marē.
Thirteen lived 205 years; And he died in Haran.
